    ARTIST BIO

Maggie-Jean Douglas is a proud Gubbi Gubbi artist from the south east region of Queensland who grew up on Goreng Goreng country and is currently living and creating on Ngunnawal country.

Maggie has been painting for 4 years now with both digital and acrylic mediums, she enjoys having the opportunity to share her culture with others in this way.

Since beginning painting Maggie has been fortunate enough to work with many businesses, assisting them to create artworks specific to their values so that they can have the chance to share their stories through Indigenous art.

“It’s been a pleasure to create this artwork for/with Unearth Group, as a representation of the four parts that make up the whole company,”

    Maggie

The magnificent Indigenous digital art depicted throughout the website was designed by Award Winning and proud Gubbi Gubbi artist Maggie Jean Douglas. The Indigenous owners of Unearth Group, Alun Seden and David Mayo wanted to capture the journey taken together in developing their organisation and pay respect to the community of family, supporters and employees that have walked alongside them in building their organisation.

Their journey starts in the left-hand corner, as moving kangaroo tracks make their way through the various Australian landscapes Alun and David have worked in or on, the sea, the earth and the grasslands and bound up to the start of their business journey. Culturally significant to Indigenous people, the kangaroo tracks were chosen to represent only moving forward, given that they can’t jump backward! A recognition to each other to keep moving forward.

The four yarning circles represent each of the organisations, and the colours selected to represent those organisations, flowing in the order of creation, each is surrounded by the spirits of the people who have helped and continue to support their journey.
