The Unearth Group of companies started because founders, Alun and David, wanted to create pathways for more people to have greater opportunities to enter professional services.
Both Alun and David grew up on Larrakia land (Darwin), each in large families of 12.
As family friends, life was simple. There was plenty of time spent with friends and siblings, playing lots of sports (often on opposing sides), and the odd bit of mischief on the weekend.
After the early years, they journeyed different paths.
After completing his studies in a Bachelor of IT, Alun was successful at an Indigenous Cadetship with the Australian Government. For David, an Indigenous traineeship with Qantas Airways. Both left Darwin with their careers, occasionally getting lost along the way – life isn’t an adventure if you don’t make a few wrong turns!!
Arriving in the Ngunnawal nation (Canberra), they reconnected through their love of basketball. Now with families of their own, they share the stories of how those early opportunities changed their lives and the lives of their families.
Realising the real impact those opportunities had on them, they applied their personal and professional knowledge to build Unearth Group, to develop and create professional career pathways similar to those afforded to them and play their part in building a new generation of professionals.
Unearth Talent, part of the Unearth Group, is that goal realised. Today, as a recruitment organisation, they actively seek and develop opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to find professional careers. Striving to be the “employer of choice”, developing and growing capability in individuals to achieve a vision of aligning Great People with Great Organisations.
